WHAT IS QUIET LUXURY?

TRENDS COME AND TRENDS GO AND THEN SOMETIMES A TREND IS SO WELL TIMED IT BECOMES A LIFESTYLE CHOICE. This is what has happened with something known at Quiet Luxury.  Like so many interior waves, this look began in the fashion world last year and many attribute its prominence to the TV series Succession, but its longevity is built on its simple, achievable principles which, contrary to how it sounds, don’t, necessarily involve a great deal of investment.

What makes Quiet Luxury?

It begins with an organic neutral colour palette, preferably on the warm spectrum.

Add layers of differing textures, this is essential but keep things tidy and uncluttered, no jumble of cushions here.

Invest in the best you can afford in the moment, choosing quality over quantity, natural over artificial.

You’re looking for longevity – classic items – and sustainability, where possible. Bespoke is good, when possible.

Antiques or vintage items, carefully selected, enforce the sense of heritage. Hand-crafted works, too.

Lighting should be soft rather than bright and functional, following the well-established rules of ambient, task, accent and decorative.

Where possible incorporate curves to blur lines, bring softness.
