Okay, we’ve been doing it for years, but now it has a name – mantelscaping.
Once the home of family photographs or the odd candlestick, the mantelpiece now has a new role in interiors as the base for mantelscaping, the follow-on from bathscaping and tablescaping. Put mantelscaping in your instagram search and you’ll be informed that there are “fewer than 100 posts” so it must be a relatively new trend! But perhaps, like so much redecoration and rebuilding that’s going on now, it’s a result of lockdown boredom/analysis of our home space. However, as a quick-fix to refresh the mood of a room, it works.
If you’re looking for some inspiration visit www.shopmantel.com for a collection of vintage and craft items to inspire (they also make great gifts) and check out the pictures below. Our favourite ‘mantelscapes’ tell a story whether it’s via photographs, artwork, collectibles or souvenirs. This is a decorating trend to have fun with – play with objects of different heights, fabrication and type. Throw in something that poses the question why?
Falchi Interiors founder, Marion Falchi, is fond of the odd buddha – spot which mantel is hers, and marketing manager Jaki Willson collects white horses although at present they’re lodging on the office window cill. Perhaps cillscapes are next?
