IN LAST WEEKEND’S SUNDAY TIMES Home Section, journalist @Kat_Burroughs interviewed Farrow & Ball’s colour curator, @joastudholme who declared brown to be the new grey. We’re delighted to say that we’re a bit ahead of the game on this trend, as we’ve already got a toe in the chocolate pot, so as to speak, weaving the exciting new tones of tobacco, donkey, tortoiseshell, bronze and cinnamon through a client’s development in Ickenham.
There’s no doubt that brown tones are warmer, “a little less hard-edged” as Studholme describes the trend and we’re finding them really exciting, especially when coupled with some of the delicious textures to be found in this season’s fabrics.
However, for those among our clients who have yet to fall out of love with grey to ease the transition, we’re delving into the wide variety of flooring, wall coverings and fabrics that blend the two – grey and brown – together and there’s so much to choose from.
In much the same way as white in all its myriad manifestations has never fallen out of favour, grey will be with us for a while, we feel. The secret is in finding out how to use it and make it work for you.
