HOW TO DRESS THE PERFECT BED

WHEN IT COMES TO DRESSING A BED, the yardstick for how it should look is set by the images that we see in the media.

But let’s drill it back to what is really important and why we’re where we are today when it comes to dressing a bed.

Although we spend about a third of our lives in the bedroom, the majority of this time we are asleep. So why are we – the interior style conscious – so obsessed with how our bed is dressed? Let’s look into this.

What we want from a bed is something that looks inviting, cosy, and sets the style of the room.

Now we’re getting somewhere. While the questions that most designers are asked are “what number of cushions is the right number?” and “should my throw look ‘thrown’ or carefully folded?” what’s actually driving us is a search for comfort and security.

All those cushions and pillows are nesting, offering somewhere to snuggle into and expressing individuality. Likewise the throw laid carefully but casually over the end of the bed, creating layers that suggest warmth and shelter.

But enough of analysis, the bottom line is does it really matter? As long as you love the linen that you select and buy the finest thread count in natural fibres that you can afford, as long as your pillows and duvet provide the support and shelter that you need to get a good night’s sleep, and as long as, when you stand back and admire your bedroom and how been dressed, you’re satisfied with the textures and colours chosen, that’s what that really counts.

Sleep well.
