DECOREX: WHAT’S NEW IN INTERIORS?

GOOGLE “INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2023” and the results will only confuse. This is not as discombobulating as it seems: there’s a wind of change in interior design at present and for companies locked into manufacturing processes it’s difficult to pin down direction.

At Decorex 2022 the mix of new and familiar was pretty even but the vibe was stronger than last year and there was excitement.

ART AND ABSTRACT

While carpets continue to be influenced by the natural world, these particularly caught our eye as being directly inspired by a piece of artwork. Concept Hand Tufting also exhibited some beautiful polished cotton abstract designs.

PERSONALISATION

What are you dreaming of? It’s almost possible to customize anything to the enth degree to create something individual. While bespoke seating has become the norm, the details – light switches (Paintables from Hamilton Litestat), handles, hinges and sockets – are offering variety with a captial ‘V’.

CIRCLES AND CURVES

Curved lines continue to be a major influence on sofas, chairs, coffee tables and footstools. Boucle is still the go-to fabric choice with rumours of easy-care formulations coming from international trade shows.

GLASS AND MIRRORS

Transparency and reflection are having a moment – no, not in politics but interiors. The attributes of light and space that glass brings to an interior seem particularly appropriate for these times. Glass finished furniture is seeing a resurgence and these beautiful coloured lights are just totally feel good.
