… Our interior designers share 5 easy steps
If you’re reading our blogs, the likelihood is that you’ve taken a look through our website and in particular our Portfolio pages. Like most interior designers, we have a signature. While we are able to adapt our style to our client’s requests, our go-to approach is based on a cohesive interior that maximises the light and space available and provides the perfect background for our client’s lifestyle and taste.
If you’re working on your own interior update whether you’re tackling it yourself or pulling together an idea of what you’d like if you’re commissioning professionals, there are a few key pointers that Falchi Interiors believes are essential if a cohesive look is your aim.
Before you begin:
Choose your basic colour palette to be repeated throughout
Light neutrals are the easiest to work with from our current favourite, Slaked Lime from Little Green, to sage such as Dark Olive by Benjamin Moore. Within the chosen shade different tones can be used from one room to the next. Use the same palette for wallpaper, if that’s your preference (remember to continue with wallpaper throughout) and flooring. If a colour level is kept throughout the home, different floor surfaces will sit together. If you’re looking for something moodier it is possible to work greens or blues, for example, but balancing these takes a confident colour hand.
Choose highlight colours
These can be one or two shades such as greens and blues or colours from a similar palette such as pastels. Drop these in wherever suitable using accessories or soft furnishings.
Identify your storage needs
Decide how doors and shelves are going to be finished and what sort of handles you’ll want.
Think about your lighting and electrics
Decide where it should be placed, what sort of lighting you want and in what finishes. While the actual light fittings don’t have to match, the choice of finish and colour should be consistent.
Focus on any details
If you’ve spotted things you’d like to incorporate into your home such as pocket doors, panelling or a style of window dressing plan where these will be repeated.
