THE BEGINNING OF AN INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT is an exciting time for all involved, yet even though a client is happy to share with you minute details of their life and what they want from their home, sharing information about the budget available often doesn’t come as easily. This is understandable. Human nature being what it is it is not unreasonable to suspect that a designer may spend the budget they are given. This couldn’t be further from the truth. For one thing, a client who feels that the best value is not being made of their investment will not be a happy client and certainly won’t want to make recommendations to others. The more transparent any initial conversation about budget can be the better the end result is likely to turn out. Here’s why it’s important you share this information with us…
1. We know where and how we can make savings
2. We have the experience and the skills to achieve the results you want at different price points
3. Being open about your budget will save money on your designer fees
4. You still have the opportunity to reappraise your budget
5. It builds trust between us
1. We know where and how we can make savings
When we discuss your plans with you at the beginning of your project we will use all our experience to ensure that we understand exactly what your priorities are. This enables us to concentrate the budget in those areas and balance the remainder.
2. We have the experience and the skills to achieve the results you want at different price points
For example, let’s assume that your heart is set on a marble worktop. We can present you with a choice, including an option that may save you money. However if you are really set on that marble worktop and have a defined budget for your kitchen we can present tile alternatives or kitchen unit sources that may surprise you. Similarly, if you want a particular effect with joinery, our experts may have a trick or two up their sleeves to achieve the look and allow you to move your budget into other areas of the property.
3. Being open about your budget will save you money on your designer fees
No-one wants to waste time and especially time that you are being charged for. If we understand your goals we can head straight towards them rather than spending time presenting a multltude of options. Of course, if you are unsure about what you want, once again that’s where our experience and talents kick in. Right at the beginning of the project, using Pinterest to help us all communicate, we will present you with two or three variations on your theme.
4. You still have the opportunity to reappraise your budget
Throughout the project we will provide you with monthly time sheets showing how your design fee is being used and your budget is invested. We will gain your approval for all proposed costs and if you change your mind about your priorities we will do our best to re-evaluate any future design input. There are always contingencies and surprises in most interior operations and we will address together to work out the solutions.
5. It builds trust between us
And that’s essential for a good working relationship.
